Vaccinations
Childhood vaccinations
Vaccines are the best way to prevent infectious disease. Having them on time gives your child the best protection.
We will invite you to bring your child in for:
- their 8-week check with a GP, and immunisations with the nurse. This is also when mum has her postnatal check
- 12-week and 16-week immunisations
- 1-year immunisations
- the pre-school booster at 3 years and 4 months

Travel vaccinations
If you are travelling outside the UK, you may need vaccinations against diseases found in other parts of the world.
Start at least 6 to 8 weeks before you travel. Your vaccination appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you go, so the vaccines have time to work.
How to arrange travel vaccinations
- Ask for a travel form using Klinik, and we will text it to you. You can also ask a receptionist on 01757 211750
- Fill the form in and return it to us
- Contact us 7 working days later to find out which vaccines you need
- Book an appointment with a practice nurse for the vaccinations
Travel vaccinations the NHS pays for
- polio, diphtheria and tetanus booster (the 3-in-1 vaccine) – protects for 10 years
- hepatitis A – protects for 25 years after 2 doses
- typhoid fever – protects for 3 years
- cholera – only if you are considered high risk
If you need a vaccine we cannot give you, book with a private travel clinic at least 6 weeks before you travel.
Which travel vaccines you need
Check the country you are visiting on:
Some countries ask for proof of vaccination, such as for polio or yellow fever. You need an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis.
