Clinics and health checks

These are the clinics and health checks we run at the surgery. Book them the same way as any other appointment – see appointments.

Long-term condition reviews

If you have a long-term condition, we check in with you regularly. This covers conditions such as asthma, COPD, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and arthritis.

The review looks at how your condition has been, how your treatment is working, and whether anything needs changing. It is also a chance to talk about symptoms, your wellbeing and any problems with your medicines.

How a review works

  1. We invite you once a year, usually by text, around the month of your birthday
  2. We may arrange tests first – blood tests, urine tests, or blood pressure readings. Reception cannot book your review until these are done
  3. You see a practice nurse or clinical pharmacist. They go through your symptoms, your medicines, your test results, risk factors, any vaccinations you need, and what happens next
  4. If your medicines need reviewing, reception will arrange a phone appointment with a GP

If you have more than one long-term condition, we may combine your reviews into one longer appointment.

Cervical screening

Cervical screening checks the health of your cervix. It is not a test for cancer – it looks for changes before they can become cancer.

Everyone with a cervix aged 25 to 64 should go for regular screening. We will write to you when you are due, and you book an appointment with a practice nurse.

If you missed your last screening, you do not need to wait for a letter. Book an appointment.

AgeWhen you’re invited
Under 25Up to 6 months before you turn 25
25 to 49Every 3 years
50 to 64Every 5 years
65 or olderOnly if a recent test was abnormal

Breast screening

Breast screening uses x-rays to look for cancers too small to see or feel.

If you are registered with us as female, you will be invited every 3 years between the ages of 50 and 71. You will get a letter.

If you are a trans man, trans woman or non-binary, you may be invited automatically. If not, speak to a GP or contact the screening service.

Our local service is the North Yorkshire Breast Screening Service, Breast Imaging Unit, The Magnolia Centre, York Hospital, Wigginton Road, York YO31 8HE. Phone 01904 725 591.

Contraception and sexual health

Our nurses can help with contraception. Several of them hold family planning qualifications.

You can also get the contraceptive pill from a pharmacy without a prescription, free of charge. Find a pharmacy that offers the contraceptive pill.

You do not need a prescription for emergency contraception. Some pharmacies provide it free on the NHS. Find emergency contraception.

For contraception, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, see refer yourself to a service.

Muscle, bone and joint problems

Our First Contact Physiotherapist is the first person to see about a new muscle, bone or joint problem.

He assesses you and either treats you in the appointment or refers you to another service. He does not provide courses of physiotherapy.

To book, use Klinik or phone reception on 01757 211750.
